"Emirates Today" spotted advertisements on used computers, titled "Used laptops for remote study", at prices ranging between 280 and 800 dirhams, but they are sold without guarantees to continue their work without breakdowns, which exposed students who used them to technical problems that hindered the virtual study.

He called on the relatives of the Ministry of Education students and the local authorities responsible for education to provide efficient devices, at prices suitable for families with limited income, with their fees in installments throughout the school year.

In detail, Ahmed Saif (father of three students) said: “I chose for my children the distance learning system, which forced us to provide a device for each student, as they receive their lessons virtually at the same time, but the high prices of new computers, which ranged between 2000 and 4000 Dirhams, we were prompted to buy used devices, especially with the numerous advertisements about these devices, whose prices do not exceed 800 dirhams, indicating that the prices of three used devices are less than the price of one new device.

He added: "The problem is that two of the three devices frequently malfunction, which hinders the follow-up of my child's school class well, but we cannot buy new devices, especially since many stores exploit the increased demand for tablets and raise prices without justification."

Yasmine Khaled said: “I have four students in different educational stages, and I had to buy two laptop computers, in addition to two tablets (iPad), so that each of them could follow the lessons of the school day regularly, and it was exhausting. Financially, we buy new computers, so we searched for used computers on websites and social media. ”

She pointed out that “education, whether (remotely) or (school), has become financially burdensome for families, due to the precautionary measures imposed by the (Corona) pandemic to prevent the spread of infection, and among these measures is not to share personal belongings with others, so it became necessary to be Each student has his own tools, and then the expenses on the family increased.

The Ministry of Education and local educational institutions in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah demanded that computers be provided to students at reduced prices, and in installments throughout the school year, in order to relieve the students' families, and to support the continuity of regularity in following up the lessons in the virtual study.

Shaima Salah (the mother of three students) stated that she chose for her daughters the full-time education system, because they study in the first educational years, and there is no one to take care of them because of her job, but she was surprised by the decision to postpone the start of school attendance by two weeks at the beginning of the current school year, and then extend the delay For another two weeks, she was forced to buy three computers for her daughters so that they could continue their studies.

She indicated that the high prices of computers due to the high demand for their purchase during this period prompted her to search for used devices, at prices that fit her budget.

Technical defects

A computer seller on social media confirmed to "Emirates Today" that used devices are witnessing a great turnout of students' families, to facilitate remote study for their children, indicating that the used device has no "guarantee" or is not guaranteed, just like any used device.
