04 October 2020Police used fire hydrants to disperse the crowd that gathered in central Minsk.

Local sources report it.

A protest, which arrives on the first Sunday after the announcement of the European Union sanctions against Belarus.

The opposition, therefore, which challenges the re-election of Alexander Lukashenko, even today has managed to mobilize thousands of citizens.

On the Telegrram channel NEXTA Live, through which the actions of the opposition are coordinated, it is announced that today's demonstration is dedicated to "political prisoners".

Hundreds of protesters, leaders of political movements, trade unions and journalists were arrested and jailed for participating or organizing the protests.

Every Sunday the Belarusian authorities deploy riot forces, armored vehicles, reinforced jeeps and water cannons in Minsk.

They also limit mobile Internet access and reduce the operation of public transport to make mobilization more difficult.

In other parts of the country, where large demonstrations also take place, there have been sporadic clashes and tear gas and stun grenades have been used.

But police interventions seem less violent than in August, when the government used every means to stop the protests.

Dozens of people injured, thousands of arrests.
