Trump receives treatment in a special ward with exceptional equipment

The Presidential Suite at Walter Reed Hospital is one of six private rooms for high-ranking White House patients and officials.

The luxurious suite, officially known as "Suite 71", has a bedroom, living room with sofas, a doctor's desk, a meeting room, an office space and a dining room.

The White House controls the entire presidential suite, and Walter Reed directors do not have unrestricted access.

The ward is under the administration of the White House and not the Department of Defense, which oversees the rest of the hospital.

And if a White House doctor cannot specifically treat a disease, the hospital has "pre-screened and background-checked specialists who are available to treat the president."

According to Connecting Fits, the presidential suite is "outfitted with exceptional protection and communications equipment, and is at the president's disposal."

In her 2010 diary, Connie Mariano, who served in the medical position of former Presidents George HW Bush and Bill Clinton, said that presidents and vice presidents "are usually examined in the medical evaluation and treatment unit at Walter Reed, with a separate, private, specially equipped wing."

The wing where Trump is currently staying was renovated in 2011, when the National Naval Medical Center and Walter Reed Military Medical Hospital merged.

Mariano said the room is about 3,000 square feet, and was specially created so US presidents can function as usual.

The hospital is located nine miles from the White House in Washington, DC, and receives about 40,000 patients.

In total, the center has 244 beds and 50 ICU beds.

The hospital has a smart suite, designed using "two-way communication devices, special audio-visual and wireless capabilities, in addition to entertainment, all of which can be controlled via a removable wall-mounted keyboard, and the patient can access it at all times."
