According to the book entitled "Anger" by the veteran American journalist Bob Woodward, Secretary of Defense James Mattis slept in his clothes in anticipation of missiles launched from North Korea, and he also visited Washington National Church next door to pray there.

This summed up all his fears, as the reckless US President Donald Trump was mocking the president of a rogue state, North Korea, risking a nuclear war, and unfortunately this was not a novel of fictional adventures, but rather the truth.

At a time when North Korea's President Kim Jong Un was continuing to carry out missile and nuclear tests, Trump warned this country against waging war against the United States, and he also warned several members of his administration against playing with fire. Former defense, James Mattis, fell asleep in his uniform due to the threat from North Korea, according to a new book written by journalist Woodward, titled "Anger," which was published on September 15th.

Woodward says that the relationship between the United States and North Korea was heated, and a nuclear clash was likely, according to what was reported by "Business Insider" newspaper.

North Korea launched about 24 of its most powerful ballistic missiles in 2017, shortly after Trump entered the White House, and this resulted in Trump's national security team feeling anxious, including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who said at the time: “No. We know if these missiles are real or just a hoax, "according to what" Business Insider "reported.

Mattis announced his resignation from his post in December 2018, and spoke of his anger at President Trump's decision to withdraw American forces from Syria, an option that was not accepted by the top military leaders in the United States and its allies at the time, according to Business Insider.

Speaking to President Trump, Mattis said in his resignation letter: "Given that you have the right to appoint a Defense Secretary who has views similar to yours on many issues, I think it would be better for me to resign from my post."

For more than a year after his resignation, he refrained from criticizing the administration, but last June he wrote an article that was published in "The Atlantic" in which he criticized the administration's response to the "black lives matter" demonstrations, according to the same newspaper.

"This week, I witnessed horrific and outrageous incidents," the former minister said in his article.

He added: "Donald Trump is the first president during my life who does not try to unite the American people. He does not even pretend to do so. Rather, he is working to divide it, and we have seen the results of three years of his intended efforts to not unify Americans."

According to Woodward's book, Mattis said he resigned after Trump withdrew the US military: "When I was directed to do an action I thought it was more than stupid or a stupid crime."
