Three days and thirty years after the unification of East and West Germany, President Steinmeier emphasized the importance of Germany's leadership in cooperation throughout Europe at a commemorative ceremony.

Germany, which was divided into east and west during the Cold War, celebrated 30 years since its unification on the 3rd.

The commemorative ceremony in eastern Potsdam was scaled down by the effects of the new coronavirus and was attended by approximately 230 people, including President Steinmeier and Chancellor Angela Merkel.

In this, President Steinmeier said, "The difference between East and West Germany is no longer decisive. Germany has become more diverse in the last 30 years due to unification and immigration. We are all citizens." He called for unity that transcends religious differences.

He also emphasized the importance of Germany to drive cooperation throughout Europe, saying, "Because we have united the experience of East and West Germany, we can play a special role as a strong country in the center of Europe." ..

Germany, which achieved unity, strengthened its political and economic voice and grew to become called the "European lord", but the economic disparity between East and West still remains in the country, and dissatisfaction with the disparity is sucked up. Right-wing political parties that are exclusive in form are making great strides, and the resolution of social divisions has become an issue.
