03 October 2020 Born a few days ago and already causes public opinion to be discussed. We are talking about “Base Italia”, an association to “make Italy grow again”, as Marco Bentivogli, former secretary of CISL metalworkers, and now coordinator of Base Italia, says. The president is Floridi, important names appear on the scientific committee: from Carlo Cottarelli to the professor of Labor Law Lucia Valente, from the Jesuit Francesco Occhetta to the sociologist Mauro Magatti. What are the challenges that “Base” launches to Italian politics? We talk about it, in this interview, with Marco Bentivogli.

Bentivogli, the birth of "Base" has intrigued the Italian public opinion.

You call yourselves "Reformists".

Excuse me for the provocation but also the PD, Calenda and Renzi define themselves as "reformists", how are you different?

Yes, the attention is above all expectations.

We are not a party, we are a cultural network for the promotion of political and social participation.

We want to awaken the passion for civil commitment, for politics, the trade union, people must return to their country's heart.

On the term "reformist" there is a mass self-certification in politics and beyond that has inflated and delegitimized the term.

We are a force of integration between the best energies already today in politics but primarily towards those who have distanced themselves, disaffected, resigned to the mediocrity that has led to a politics without passion and values on the one hand and anti-politics on the other, who fighting against caste when it became caste itself, it demonstrated an ethical and moral ease that has nothing to envy to the previous establishment.

This is why we start, in the first phase, with people not directly involved in politics and with young people who are truly invisible to the country's widespread management group.

We need to give them a dimension of the future by giving them space in the Italian gerontocracy.

In reading your manifesto-appeal one is struck by the dialectic "complexity - simplification".

Even the populist Salvini wants to simplify, not to mention Grillo.

Doesn't Italy die for too much simplification?

The world and life are increasingly complex, we are in the middle of 3 major transformations: demographic, digital, environmental.

Having the most prepared and innovative personalities of each area serves to put them at the service of the need to understand, to simplify for ordinary people.

In Italy we are dying not of simplification but of trivialization with which the populists, in crisis from an electoral point of view, have infected almost the entire political system.

This is about complexity.

If we talk about bureaucracy we all agree in theory but in practice, everyone defends their prerogatives with a thousand quibbles that plaster the country, starting with the PA.

Write in your appeal that you want to act as catalysts for innovation projects.

What is your political agenda?

We are not a think tank, not even a think action tank, a task force.

We want to popularize the values and contents of reformism.

For this we start on the contrary, from the contents and the construction of territorial nodes.

We have already opened 18 in 4 days.

And in the first 100 personalities who joined there is truly the beautiful Italy that does not resign: from those fighting the Camorra to those who invented hydroponic agriculture, from those who fight poverty in the metropolis to those who are designing quantum computers.

We need this elite, capable of putting themselves at the service of people, coming out of the bubble.

For this the network will take root among people, towards the existential peripheries to reunify the national community and reconnect social ties, shattered by fear, hatred and individualism.

Speaking of the "political agenda", what ideas do you have to propose to the government and the social partners on the "Recovery Fund".

Or where, in your opinion, is the country's future at stake?

The Next Generation Eu is the last train for our country.

We need a strategy to use those resources to make Italy structurally stronger, more attractive, less bureaucratic and bureaucratic.

We need a strategy on infrastructures, research like the Amaldi Plan, innovation like the Innovaction network but then without constitutional reforms that overcome the bicameralism of the party, cancel the V title and cancel the bureaucracy, the money will be wasted.

These resources will be debt, the interest of which is already the fourth use of all the personal income taxes paid by Italians.

What is your opinion on the government's work?

We are not a party and among us there are different opinions on the work of the government.

What we think is that we must always talk about merit.

We too join the chorus, now banal of those who ask for a vision but it is true that there is too much electoral welfare and little investment in the future.

Certainly assembling the projects that you have on your desk is not a strategy, look at France and Germany.

And on communication, take parrhesia lessons from Germany, the right duty to always tell the truth to your people, especially in difficult moments.

In the promoting committee I see a lot of elites, which is not bad, but who is the “Base” represented by?

Are you also receiving union membership and from the world of volunteering?

The most important come from the world of volunteering, from individuals, from people who simply wondered what I can do for my country.

Of course, the scientific committee is of the highest level, 50% men and 50% women.

Also in the trade union, especially in the workplace, there is a lot of interest.

Some think it is a party and for which it rightly foresees an incompatibility.

Many union leaders are members of political parties and this has never represented a limit.

Autonomy and incompatibility from elective positions must remain a value.

Work is one of the central themes of Base Italia and for those who want it we will be a traveling companion and a place of authentic confrontation.

When will we see the “Base” at work?

We want to reconstruct human territorial eco-systems made of solidarity ties and which pose all the challenges of tomorrow in an inclusive way.

The short times, the accelerations, are more useful to the ego-systems.

We are a team, a network, the journalistic tic of labeling things we don't know or understand makes me nervous, like when they talk about the “Bentivogli party”.

We are not a party, we do not need any, let alone a personal one.

Base is already at work, throughout Italy, it is weaving its network and will be a permanent place, regardless of the destiny and choices of each one.

It was a long time since something open, deliberately multi-identity was built.

In Italy, in order to cultivate the fragment, each one marks the degree of purity of others.

They didn't understand how much the world has changed.

And that we are taking a big risk and it is time to understand that we must permanently join the forces of those who love the country and those who live there.
