Image of the week

: this is the first presidential debate in this American election.

"A nightmare for democracy", "the worst presidential debate in history" ... The American newspapers have not lacked superlatives to describe this confrontation of an hour and a half between Donald Trump and his Democratic rival, Joe Biden.

The controversy of the week

: these are the revelations of the New York Times on Donald Trump's taxes.

750 dollars is the amount he paid between 2016 and 2017, according to the daily.

This survey also reveals that the Republican billionaire has not paid taxes for ten of the previous fifteen years, in particular because he recorded more losses than gains, whether in his golf courses or in his hotel in Washington.

Analysis of the week

: this is the first surprise of October, Donald Trump announced on Twitter that he and his wife, Melania Trump, had tested positive for Covid-19 and that they were quarantining themselves.

This event should strongly impact his campaign because the outgoing president has already had to cancel an electoral rally in Florida.

Florida is a key state in the race for the White House.

What now?

Next week is the first and only vice-presidential debate.

It will take place in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Wednesday, October 7 and it promises to be more courteous than the first presidential debate ... Donald Trump's loyal vice-president, Mike Pence, will face off against the running mate of Joe Biden, California Senator Kamala Harris.

They have to discuss nine themes for 10 minutes each.
