A mother and her six children were rescued from a burning apartment this Wednesday afternoon in Nîmes (Gard).

Before help arrived on the scene, in the Pissevin district, three residents came to the aid of this family.

The fire broke out in an apartment on the fourth floor of a building.

When the mother of the family noticed that her apartment was engulfed in flames, the door was already inaccessible, the fire progressing very quickly, explain the firefighters.

She then took refuge, with her children, on the balcony.

"They must have broken the door"

The distressed family has been spotted by locals.

Three of them "went up, by the stairs, to the apartment below,"

The tenant being absent, they had to break the door.

They positioned themselves on the balcony, and were able to evacuate the whole family, thanks to the mother who was passing the children one by one.

They then took them out.

The firefighters immediately intervened and allowed the fire to be limited to one apartment.

The victims, all slightly injured, were evacuated to hospital.

Their rehousing will be taken care of by the municipality.
