• Albert II of Belgium admits the paternity of the sculptor Delphine Boël

The

Belgian

artist

Delphine Boël

, born from an extramarital affair of King Emeritus Albert II of Belgium, was

officially

designated this Thursday

as princess of this country

after a decision by the

Brussels court

that examined the request for recognition of the monarch's paternity.

Seven years after Boël presented

his first paternity suit

to Albert II

in 2013

, the artist

will now change her surname

and take that of her father, from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, reported the Belgian public radio television RTBF.

Her children, Josephine and Oscar, also become by

extension Princess and Prince of Belgium

and will be named with the formula "Her Royal Highness".

In statements collected by the Belga news

agency, the lawyer for the artist, Marc Uyttendaele said the ruling gives your customer

"satisfaction"

and applauded that have fulfilled their demands to be treated "on an equal footing with his brothers and sister ".

"She is delighted with this decision that ends a

long and painful procedure

for her and her family. A legal victory will never replace the love of a father, but it offers a

feeling of justice,

" stressed the lawyer.

The 52-year-old Boël's existence

came to light in 1999

as a result of the publication of an unauthorized biography of Queen Paola.

The Brussels Court of Appeal ordered the 86-year-old former monarch in May 2019 to

carry out a DNA test

to compare the genetic information with that of his alleged daughter.

Finally,

Alberto II confirmed on January 27

that the results of the DNA test to which he was submitted by order of justice showed that he is the biological father of the artist.

The Brussels Court of Appeal had held the last hearing on

this process on September 10

and planned to deliver a judgment on October 29.
