One early morning in October 2004, eight-year-old Mohamad Ammouri was stabbed to death on his way to school.

56-year-old Anna - Lena Svensson was also stabbed to death when she tried to intervene.

The brutal act occurred in the middle of a residential area in central Linköping.

A hat and a murder weapon with DNA were found nearby, but the case eluded the police for many years.

DNA hits in commercial database

But almost 16 years after the murders, Daniel Nyqvist was arrested on suspicion of the murders, after hits in a commercial database for DNA genealogy combined with family search.

After a 100 percent match with the perpetrator's DNA, he admitted the act.

A forensic psychiatric examination shows that the man suffers from a serious mental disorder both at the time of the act and during the examination.
