Fiona Ferro (49th) qualified for her first third round at Roland Garros by taking on Kazakhe Elena Rybakina, 18th in the world, in three sets 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 Thursday.
Ferro (23) had already reached this stage of competition once before in a major tournament at the US Open in 2019.
Three French women thus reached the third round Porte d'Auteuil, after the qualifications of Caroline Garcia and young Clara Burel.
For his first on the Philippe-Chatrier court Thursday evening, Ferro did not hesitate to take the game on his own, signing 36 winning shots throughout the two hours of the match (for 37 unforced errors).
"I did not expect to play on the Chatrier, I was super happy when I found out and I had a lot of fun on the court today," she said.
