"The government of the Russian Federation, together with the government of the Irkutsk region and the government of the Republic of Buryatia, to work out the issue of holding the Year of Baikal in the Russian Federation," the instruction says.

The report must be submitted by December 1, 2020.

Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, the head of the Irkutsk region Igor Kobzev, the head of Buryatia Alexei Tsydenov were appointed responsible.

On August 6, it became known that Mishustin approved the composition of the government commission for the protection of Lake Baikal.

The commission was headed by Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko.

Also, the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Evgeny Zinichev, instructed to hold an emergency meeting in connection with the rise in the water level in Lake Baikal.
