"Flights to nowhere": this is the new ecological aberration to date.

A new tourist offer proposed by Asian and Australian companies, consequence of the pandemic, and symptom, according to our columnist Fanny Agostini, of a negation of climate change.

Taking a plane to go nowhere is the latest fad, but above all it is the latest ecological aberration.

You may have heard of this crazy new tourist offer: companies that offer to take off and land in the same place, basically going nowhere while enjoying a flight during which, glued right up against the window, the "tourist" will make an aerial loop allowing him to visit a region seen from the sky.

Borneo, the great barrier reef, the aboriginal site of Uluru ... but never stop there.

Consequence of the pandemic

Several airlines, mainly Asian and Australian, offer these flights to "Nowhere".

An experience that is lived a bit like an attraction where the pilot will comment on the landscape and where popcorn and ice cream are offered throughout the journey.

Of course, this new formula would be the consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The air sector damaged during confinement has found a way to capture a fringe of the population in need of planes.

An economic boon for companies that have suffered from the almost total shutdown of their activities.

And it looks like this ecological madness is not about to stop, because it works.

The airline Qantas, for example, sold in just 10 minutes the 130 tickets ranging from 500 to 2,300 euros for a simple trip in the air.

The "cingulate cortex" damaged

A nonsense, which would confirm the work of Sébastien Bolher, doctor in neurosciences and author of a book entitled "Where is the meaning".

His latest research into the functioning of our cortex has revealed a small element located between the two hemispheres of our brain called the cingulate cortex.

This would be in perpetual search for meaning, landmarks, order.

But in a time of losing our bearings, it would act more like a protective shield that would help us not to think about the environmental crisis, or even to deny it so as not to enter a state of panic.

This negation or minimization of climate change would push us to overconsume and furnish our lives with such blatant distractions as taking a plane to go nowhere.

A self-destructive mechanism which certainly makes it possible to feel above the threats hanging over humanity, but which will accelerate the final crash by emitting more and more CO2.

According to this researcher, it is urgent to stop the consuming machine that humanity has become and to give meaning to our actions, otherwise the destination we collectively take will lead us irreparably to a painful landing.
