During the hunt, which starts on January 2, 2021 and lasts as long as until February 15, a total of six wolves will be allowed to be shot in Värmland County.

That message came to the County Administrative Board on Wednesday.

In recent years, the number of wolf territories has decreased in Värmland.

At the same time, the wolf population has become increasingly skewed across the county.

While the territory is dense in the southern and western parts, there are no territories at all in an area in the northeast.

- We have tracked wolves there, but then we will not find them again.

And it is not as if we have not searched, said Maria Falkevik, head of predators at the county administrative board, when the results of the winter wolf inventory were presented.

According to the county administrative board, it is probably poaching.

And the illegal hunting has affected this year's hunting quota.

- Yes, we must weigh it in the decision on license hunting, we have received that guidance from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, says Maria Falkevik.

- That it has been hunted in another way affects our opportunities to decide on hunting in the areas where it is most dense with wolf territories.
