During the ceremony, the new emir vowed to preserve and protect Kuwait, as well as continue the policies of the previous ruler.
On September 29, at the age of 91, the Emir of Kuwait, Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah, who was undergoing treatment in the United States, died.
He ruled Kuwait since January 2006.
