This round of hearings on Meng Wanzhou’s extradition case is over and a ruling on this round of appeals is expected in February next year

On September 30, local time, the Meng Wanzhou extradition case ended this round of hearings in the British Columbia High Court in Vancouver, and the judge did not make a ruling.

The hearing process on the day was relatively short and lasted more than an hour.

During this round of hearings, the lawyers of both parties respectively stated their opinions in court.

Meng Wanzhou’s lawyer (defense lawyer) believes that the key evidence provided by the US lacks the most important content and also contains false statements, thus misleading the judge and an abuse of Canadian judicial procedures.

Based on this fact, the judge should terminate the extradition procedure.

Attorneys from the Canadian Department of Justice (prosecution lawyers) believe that the judge should make a ruling and judgment on whether the conditions for extradition are sufficient, instead of judging the evidence presented by the US, and request the judge to reject Meng Wanzhou’s lawyer as the reason for the appeal.

The trial judge, Heather Holmes, did not rule on the claims of both parties.

According to the court schedule, the two sides will hold several rounds of court debates. It is expected that in February 2021, the judicial departments of Canada and the United States will judge whether the judicial departments of Canada and the United States "abuse judicial procedures."

After that, the case will enter the third round, which is also the final round of trial and adjudication in the Provincial High Court.
