  • The city of Montpellier is putting in place a series of aid for professionals impacted by the health measures taken due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

  • The municipality will in particular exonerate the rights of terraces, help the impacted companies to pay the rents and buy cinema tickets in the dark rooms.

  • Devices which are likely to evolve, indicates the town hall.

If the department of Hérault is on red alert, Montpellier, like all the municipalities of the metropolis, the Pays de l'Or and Lunellois, has been placed on enhanced red alert due to the active spread of Covid-19.

With very strict measures for catering, events or the world of culture.

The prefecture decided, on September 25, to ban parties, the broadcasting of amplified music in public spaces or in bars, the ban on opening multipurpose rooms, the closure of sports halls or even the night-time grocery stores or bars close at 10 p.m.

What seriously endanger some companies.

"The situation is serious, we must be present alongside associations, professionals, players in the economic world," says Michaël Delafosse (PS), the mayor of the city of Montpellier.

The town will therefore set up a whole series of aid for professionals affected by the Covid-19 crisis.

Financial aid for cultural venues

First, a support unit will be created for cultural players, artists and places.

“For cinemas, for example, we are going to pre-purchase cinema tickets, because this creates cash flow for theaters [Utopia or Diagonal, for example], which are facing a drop in attendance,” indicates Michaël Delafosse. .

They may benefit, for example, children in schools in Montpellier, or seniors.

For concert halls and theaters [the Jam, the Rockstore, the Antirouille or the Kawa], an aid fund, which may range from 2,000 to 10,000 euros, will be opened.

"

For markets, duty exemptions, which were to end on Wednesday, will be extended until the end of the year.

The same goes for the rights to terraces.

These last two measures will cost the town 1.6 million euros.

But the city will remain vigilant, promises the mayor, that professionals respect "barrier gestures" and, above all, "employment".

Otherwise, the sanction will fall, he announces.

"If there is a dismissal on an establishment which has benefited from an exemption from a patio fee, we will come back to it", scolds the mayor of Montpellier.

Rent aid

Rent aid for bars, restaurants and sports halls, impacted by government decisions, may also be released by the metropolis of Montpellier.

In the amount of 500 to 1,000 euros, it can be attributed to companies that can prove a loss of turnover of 50%, compared to last year.

The local authority has thus provisioned two million euros to finance this system.

All these measures, notes the town hall, could be revised if the crisis evolves.
