Middle East Eye reported that London Mayor Sadiq Khan reversed his decision to send an official observer to represent the city of London at the Mayors' Summit hosted by Riyadh as part of its presidency of the G20 this year between September 30 and October 2.

The website stated that Khan's decision to withdraw the observer was due to his keenness to not understand the observer's participation as support for the Saudi government.

The Mayor of London joins the mayors of Los Angeles, New York and Paris who announced their withdrawal earlier, expressing their concern about Riyadh's human rights record.

The withdrawals from participation in the Mayors' Conference came after a group of human rights organizations last week urged city mayors to boycott the event, citing concerns about Saudi Arabia's record on human rights, foreign policy and climate change.
