In order to efficiently procure defense equipment, it has been five years since the "Defense Equipment Agency" was established to centrally handle everything from research and development to procurement.

In the future, efforts for large-scale projects such as the development of the next fighter aircraft led by Japan will be an issue.

The Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Agency integrates the equipment departments of the Land, Sea, and Air Self-Defense Forces in order to efficiently procure defense equipment, and serves as an external agency of the Ministry of Defense that centrally handles everything from research and development to procurement. It was launched in October 2015, five years ago.



Up until now, we have been working to improve efficiency, such as selecting equipment that requires a large amount of money for development and procurement, and having a specialized team focus on cost inspections.



In addition, based on the "Three Principles for Transferring Defense Equipment" decided by the Cabinet six years ago, we are also proceeding with technology transfer overseas, and we are the first finished product of domestic defense equipment to export two types of radar to the Philippine government. This was established in August.



In the future, technical examination of alternatives to the new interception missile system "Aegis Ashore" that has been abandoned, and development of the next fighter that will succeed the F2 fighter of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force with a view to international cooperation. Efforts for large-scale projects such as these are issues.



At a press conference, Defense Minister Kishi said, "We have made various efforts such as promoting the transfer of defense equipment, but it is necessary to strengthen our defense capabilities while deepening cooperation with the business community.
