Uppsala municipality will spend five million kroner next year on getting more criminals to drop out.
At the same time, the municipality wants to expand cooperation with the Swedish Prison and Probation Service and the police.
- The basic idea of the model is that the police hunt and mark points - not only the person suspected of a shooting but the entire person's network.
At the same time, the municipality offers a way out through the defector activities, says Erik Pelling (S), municipal councilor.
Uppsala municipality has announced its interest in becoming the next city to test the "Stop shooting model".
If the government and the Crime Prevention Council say yes, the project can start after New Year.
The police are investing
The police station in Uppsala is also preparing for new directives from the government: This spring, a new program for defectors is expected to be adopted.
- I know we have prevented shootings already.
The criminals I talk to often tell me that they are happy that they have me - and that this has led to them not continuing with crime, says police Malin Andersson who has worked with defectors for several years.
