The former socialist leaders Francisco Largo Caballero and Indalecio Prieto will no longer have their names on the streets of the city of Madrid.
This has been approved this Tuesday by the Plenary of the City Council of the capital with the favorable votes of PP, Citizens and Vox at the request of the latter municipal group, which, in its proposal,
defines the trajectory of both politicians as "bloody" and "sinister. "
.
The initiative presented by the group of radical right demanded the withdrawal of
both the streets of two former ministers in Ciudad Lineal and Vicálvaro during the governments of the Second Republic as
statues in Nuevos Ministerios and plate Largo Caballero in the Plaza de Chamberí
under cover in "the Resolution of the European Parliament condemning totalitarian regimes and their representatives."
"It is very important that there are no plaques and monuments with the names of those who
are criminals and anti-democrats who do not deserve recognition,
" said Vox spokesman Javier Ortega Smith, who has requested that their political trajectories be "further studied" to "try to prevent the sinister events of our history from happening again."
"It is not revisionism, it is to end the historical lie," he added.
To this initiative PP and Ciudadanos, prior to their favorable vote, have introduced an amendment so that the text also
makes reference to article 15 of the Law of Historical Memory
, approved during the Government of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, and to the Municipal Ordinance on labeling of streets.
And, based on them, withdraw the names of both socialist leaders and urge the central government to withdraw the statues.
"We do not come to do politics with the law, we come to apply them", has remarked the
popular
mayor
Borja Fanjul.
From Ciudadanos, councilor Sofía Miranda has stated to justify the favorable vote of her group that "the law is the same for everyone" and has reminded the parties of the left "how dangerous it is to rewrite history" as, in her opinion, it is making the PSOE with the new memory law at the national level.
