The Montpellier Reine had to reinvent itself to take place.

  • In Montpellier, in a reinforced red alert zone, shows, shows and festivals have been canceled one after the other for several weeks.

  • However, certain events have been postponed in the coming months.

  • Others had to reinvent themselves in order to take place.

This is particularly the case of the real estate fair, which takes place on a virtual platform until Friday.

Since the spring, the coronavirus has seriously damaged the world of entertainment and events.

And it is not over: with the second wave, in recent weeks, concerts, festivals and fairs have been canceled one after the other.

Montpellier (Hérault), in a reinforced red alert zone, is no exception.

20 Minutes

takes stock of the maintenance (or not) of events at the time of Covid-19.

Events that will not take place

The International Fair, which was to be held at the Parc Expo from October 9 to 19, is one of the victims of the latest government measures.

The reduction of the gauge to 1,000 people to avoid the spread of the coronavirus "no longer allows us to maintain this event", deplores the organizer, Occitanie Events, which in 2019 welcomed 137,000 visitors over eleven days.

The next edition will take place from October 8 to 18, 2021.

It is with great disappointment that we have to cancel the International Fair of Montpellier which was to be held from 9 to 19/10 following the government decisions of 23/09/2020.

We warmly thank you for your trust and support.

But the traditional demonstrators or producers of aligot-sausage at the fair are not the only ones bearing the brunt of the crisis.

Sporting events, too.

The marathon, which was to be held on Sunday after being postponed for the first time last March, has been canceled.

He has not obtained the prefect's authorization to stand, and the 5,000 registered will be reimbursed.

Next edition: March 21, 2021. The Montpellier 10 km race, scheduled for the fall, has also been canceled.

The next one will take place on October 10, 2021. Goodbye also Japan Matsuri, the manga and video games convention scheduled for October 24 and 25.

The next meeting is set for October 23 and 24, 2021.

Postponed events

Some organizers were able to juggle the calendars to postpone their events in the coming months.

This is the case of the International Jumping in Montpellier, scheduled from October 22 to 26 at the Sud de France Arena.

Canceled "due to the health context and the economic situation", this meeting very popular with lovers of equestrian sports will finally take place from October 21 to 25, 2021.

Several shows have also been postponed at the Zénith-Sud: Chantal Goya, who was to tumble with her panda on November 8, is finally expected on March 7, 2021, Gad Elmaleh, who was to perform on November 26, postponed her show to October 7 2021, or Jean-Louis Aubert, scheduled for December 11, will finally sing on April 7, 2021.

Maintained events

In recent weeks, the Arabesques festival has been able to take place, with strict sanitary measures.

But now, the events maintained are few.

The Grande-Motte coastal show, which accommodates less than 1,000 people at a time, is going well until Wednesday.

Annick Girardin, Minister of the Sea, inaugurates it this Tuesday.

Events that had to reinvent themselves

Last weekend, two events chose to offer an online program to remedy their cancellations: Occitanie E-Sports, a flagship meeting for video game enthusiasts, offered two days of competitions and round tables on Twitch, while the Pride march offered, on Facebook, testimonials from associations and a great evening live, from the town hall.

Another important association player in Montpellier has decided to reinvent itself: the Montpellier Reine.

This solidarity race, which brings together several thousand participants each year to raise funds for the fight against breast cancer, will not be able to be held on October 4.

“Despite everything, research, associations and women need us,” explain the organizers.

This is why we have decided to reinvent ourselves and offer a new format to maintain this milestone event.

This will take place in October, with a presence every Saturday at Peyrou, to sell t-shirts and bibs.

All participants can run whenever they want on the course of their choice.

"And challenges will be regularly offered to Montpellier residents through social networks.

Finally, canceled on September 25, 26 and 27, the real estate fair will take place… online.

Until Friday, Internet users can thus go here, on a virtual platform, "a first in France", assure the organizers.

They can walk around the stands and ask questions of real estate professionals.

"We had anticipated it, because we said to ourselves that at the start of the school year, the health problem would not be resolved," says Guilhem Michel, the organizer of the show.

This device will survive the epidemic, and will now be offered in all editions, in addition to traditional shows.
