With 13 Premier League teams still in the running, the round of 16 of the League Cup has some nice posters in store from Tuesday to Thursday, even if some teams, like Tottenham, are starting to balk at the accumulation of matches.

With a previous season ended at the end of July, a truce reduced to its minimum due to the Euro postponed until next summer, the English Football League (EFL) interspersed the first four rounds of the competition in midweek, between the first four days of the Premier League.

That hasn't stopped Premier League clubs from taking the matches seriously as there have been very few surprises.

Leicester, the main absent in the eighth, was taken out by Arsenal.

This high concentration of elite teams will offer some great posters and even a reunion between Liverpool and Arsenal, who face each other this Monday in the league and then Thursday in the League Cup.

Manchester United, who won on Saturday in a rebounding match (3-2) in Brighton, travels again to the south of England on Wednesday.

And from Tuesday there will be a great London derby with Chelsea moving to Tottenham ... which also leads the Europa League qualifiers head-on.

From Thursday, the Spurs will be on deck to receive Maccabi Haifa and try to qualify for the group stage.

It will be their eighth game since September 13.

José Mourinho has made it clear he will spin.

“I think you can imagine that with a game on Thursday, some things would decide for themselves for us - I think the EFL made a choice for us,” Mourinho said squeaky on Monday.

"It's not even that they created a problem for us, they really decided for us," he continued, the financial impact of the Coupe de la Ligue being out of all proportion to those of the C3.

With the addition of the muscle injury of striker Son Heung-min, released at the break of the match against Newcastle on Sunday (1-1), Tottenham will need a feat against Chelsea, whose larger workforce should allow him to rotate more easily.
