Dubai Health treats deaf and dumb people remotely with gestures

Dr. Manal Tarim: “(The Commission) has provided remote consultations within the“ Doctor for Every Citizen ”initiative.

The Dubai Health Authority has used technology to provide remote health care to people of determination to meet the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, over the past months.

The Executive Director of the Primary Health Care Sector at the Authority, the team leader of the Inclusive Health and Rehabilitation Axis, Dr. Manal Tarim, said that people of determination faced many challenges, most notably being able to access available services, especially during the period of national sterilization, and fears of going to hospitals and health centers, for fear of Infection.

She added that the authority provided remote medical consultations, as part of the "Doctor for Every Citizen" initiative, in sign language for the deaf and dumb.

Tarim confirmed that the authority provided an integrated system, during which it was keen to harness its potential to provide a better health future for people of determination, pointing to the use of medicine, and to provide consultations through visual communication channels to provide the needs of auditors, especially people of determination.

It stated that the number of people of determination benefiting from telemedicine services reached 1543, while its health facilities recorded more than 7,000 visits to people of determination.

She explained that the authority trained 1641 employees on the basics of sign language, the mechanism for dealing with people of determination, and how to deal with people with visual impairment, and also invested in training 1920 employees of the front row workers, and was keen to train medical staff in schools on the early detection program for disability, and how Dealing with students of determination, as the number of trainers reached 260 specialists.

With regard to training the medical staff to provide telemedicine, the authority has trained 83 doctors on the 'Doctor for Every Citizen' platform, and they provide service around the clock, stressing that the authority has realized the necessity of investing in telemedicine to facilitate the customer’s journey and deliver services with high quality, without Affected or interrupted by the outbreak of the pandemic.
