The indictment will be submitted to Kalmar District Court tomorrow morning and according to prosecutor Kjell Jannesson, it is various witness statements that bind the 19-year-old to the crime.

- Immediately after the man started the fire at the garage lengths, he was observed when he set fire to a rubbish bin nearby.

The signal element is good and there will be a clear identification of him as a suspected perpetrator, he says.

Another person is charged

The 19-year-old will also be prosecuted for participation in a number of vandalisms that occurred during the same night, where, among other things, a bus shelter was broken.

Another person, a 21-year-old also from Central Sweden, will be charged with complicity in vandalism at the same time.

The other younger persons who were relevant during the investigation have all been written off from all suspicions.

- It has been a youth gang that wandered around the area that night.

The motive behind this is, in my opinion, youthful misunderstanding, says Kjell Jannesson.

4.5 million disappeared in the flames

It was during the night until July 14 that two garage extensions began to burn in central Färjestaden on Öland and at least 15 cars burned to a value of over SEK 4.5 million, according to the prosecutor.

Near the garage are 62 apartments whose residents were endangered.

- There are 92 people registered in the properties who, according to the rescue service, were exposed to a great risk of spreading, says Kjell Jannesson.

The 19-year-old suspect has been in custody since July and has admitted vandalism of a bus shelter in the area, but says according to the prosecutor that he does not remember anything more.

At the time of writing, there is no scheduled date for the trial.
