  The exhibition titled "Mural Collection in the Prosperous Age-Special Exhibition of Tang Dynasty Mural Culture · First Part" selected the murals found in the tombs of the royal and high officials of the Tang Dynasty such as Prince Zhang Huai, Prince Yi De, and Princess Yongtai. Most of them were in the mid-20th century. Unearthed in Xi'an, Shaanxi and surrounding areas since.

These include a number of national treasure murals collected by the Shaanxi History Museum, such as "Polo Picture", "Quelou Picture", "Hunting Trip Picture", "Guest Envoy Picture" and "Palatial Lady Picture".

  The exhibition is divided into 4 units: "Chang'an", "Fashion", "Integration" and "Reappearance". It showcases the artistic achievements and cultural features of the Tang Dynasty from the aspects of palace architecture, clothing art, fashion movement and exchanges. It also introduces mural archeology, Knowledge of repair and protection.

  The exhibition is co-sponsored by China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Relic Exchange Association and Taiwan Chinese Hanwei Cultural Promotion Association. The opening ceremony was held in Taipei and Xi'an, Shaanxi at the same time, and cross-strait interaction was realized through video connection.

  Yu Qun, vice president of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, said at the opening ceremony in Xi'an that traditional Chinese culture is the common spiritual home of compatriots on both sides of the strait. This exhibition is an important project to promote traditional Chinese culture and carry out cross-strait non-governmental exchange activities.

The exhibition will travel to several Taiwan universities, hoping to help young people have more opportunities and platforms to gain in-depth understanding of the excellent Chinese traditional culture, gain knowledge, inspire thinking, absorb historical wisdom, and broaden their horizons of life.

  Chen Chunlin, chairman of the Chinese Hanwei Cultural Promotion Association of Taiwan, said at the opening ceremony in Taipei that the Tang Dynasty was recognized as a prosperous era in Chinese history. Its open, diverse, tolerant, and confident style and characteristics of the times have influenced it to this day.

"To give an interesting example, according to incomplete statistics, there are at least 30 streets or alleys in Taiwan with the name of Chang'an. The Tang Dynasty culture is obviously our good cultural heritage, and it is worth knowing."

  He introduced that the tomb murals are different from the palace murals and grotto murals. The latter have been added and repaired in the past dynasties. The tomb murals are like "time and space capsules", which basically maintain the original appearance from the completion of the tomb construction to the excavation.

The content of the murals is exactly what the Tang Dynasty looked like. It can be used to explore, study and confirm the development of the Tang Dynasty's diplomacy, politics, society, culture and art. It is a very precious historical material.

  After being exhibited at Taiwan Normal University, the exhibition will also travel to 5 other universities in Taichung, Taoyuan and other places, and hold relevant special lectures at the same time. Chen Chunlin said that in the future, he also hopes that the exhibition can enter community centers, local cultural centers and small and medium-sized galleries to receive more local audiences.
