The right "returns to victory", welcomed Monday the boss of the Republicans Christian Jacob the day after the senatorial elections in which the majority of the right and the center came out strengthened.

"We are returning to victory", he rejoiced on France Inter, while "for eight years" the right had "lost two presidential, two legislative", and accused "a scathing failure in the Europeans".

In 2020, "we won the municipal elections. That is to say that in the territorial elections, the French trusted the right-wing candidates, and in particular the candidates Les Républicains, and the senatorial elections are an extension : we win ten seats in the Senate, it's not nothing, it is not anecdotal, it is what will allow us to prepare ourselves for the other territorial, departmental and regional deadlines "of 2021.

Asked about attempts at poaching on the part of LREM senators François Patriat and Sébastien Lecornu to try to attract LR senators into their group, Christian Jacob felt that they had to "stop with these little schemes" and this "small political policy ".

"The situation we are facing today (the health crisis, editor's note) requires a little more dignity and height," he added, while noting that "Mr. Lecornu was severely shaken in his department (Eure, Editor's note), he came in second position "against" Republicans who came first ".

The right-wing and center majority in the Senate emerged stronger from Sunday's elections, marked overall by great stability, and the announcement by environmentalists of the formation of a political group.
