"We still attach great importance to relations with Russia, there are no changes in this," Kato quoted TASS as saying.

According to him, the Japanese side intends to develop relations with Russia in such areas as the conclusion of a peace treaty, politics, economics and culture.

He noted that in cooperation, Japan will be guided by its own state interests.

Earlier it became known that the new Prime Minister of Japan Yoshihide Suga expressed a desire to hold telephone talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on September 29.
