16 work environment cases have been established due to employees' complaints.

Those affected are staff who worked at the central intensive care unit at the University Hospital during the pandemic.

The protective masks were used for lack of other alternatives and are said to have protected well against infection.

- But they are very heavy to carry - especially during many and long shifts, says Magnus von Seth, chief physician at the department.

In several cases, this has led to the victim having to be taken off sick.

- I think it is very unnecessary, says Magnus von Seth.

"Never seen before"

In addition to the protective mask-related sick leave, three employees also had eczema triggered by unproven hand alcohol that was ordered due to a lack of other alternatives.

This type of equipment-triggered sick leave is not common in the central intensive care unit, according to Magnus von Seth.

- We've never seen that before.

It was also a time when you had to resort to many odd solutions - and sometimes it went a little fast.

The protective mask is no longer used.

- We have received new masks that are better adapted, says Magnus von Seth.
