September 28, 2020 American football legend Joe Montana and his wife saved their nine-month-old grandson from a kidnapping attempt, authorities say.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said the couple confronted a woman who had entered their home and grabbed the baby from a playpen.



 After a scuffle, officials said the couple were able to retrieve the baby.

"Scary situation, but thankful that everyone is fine," tweeted the Hall of Fame quarterback.

"We appreciate the respect for our privacy at this time," he added.


Montana, now 64, has spent most of his career with the San Francisco 49ers and is widely regarded as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.

He was nicknamed "the Comeback Kid" during his heyday in the 1980s, because he was famous for organizing last-minute touchdowns.



The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said an intruder broke into the couple's home in Malibu on Saturday night and grabbed the sleeping grandson.

The four-time Super Bowl champion and his wife Jennifer "tried to ease the situation" and asked the woman to return the baby, before "a fight ensued and Mrs. Montana was able to safely snatch the baby from her. arms of the suspect, "the sheriff's department said.

The suspect, identified as Sodsai Dalzell, fled the scene but was later captured and charged with kidnapping and burglary.
