It was a night of work for the civil protection and firefighters also in Monteforte Irpino.

It was necessary to clear the streets of mud and debris, in some cases even from the cars that were dragged by the fury of the water and which ended up blocking the alleys of the historic center.

The landslide that detached from Monte San Martino caused tons of land to fall, dragged downstream by the violent storm.

Many houses in the upper part of the town were invaded by mud and the technicians of the Civil Engineers already yesterday evening started the first static checks, concluding that some buildings had to be evacuated.

Ten families were transferred to the first reception center set up in the late evening with cots and blankets sent by the regional civil protection.

In elementary school, mostly elderly people and families with children found shelter.

The bulldozers in the meantime have begun to clear Piazza Umberto I from the mud, the main square of the town where shops and homes have been flooded.

In some places the mud wave has exceeded one meter in height.

Schools for today will be closed in Monteforte Irpino.

The weather alert will remain throughout the day and the operations center is already active in common to coordinate emergency and rescue interventions.

35 families have also left homes in Castel San Giorgio

Another evacuation, in the Salerno area, due to bad weather.

After the 35 families who had to leave their homes in Sarno, the mayor of Castel San Giorgio, Paola Lanzara, signed an ordinance imposing on the residents of Corso Claudio, in the stretch that goes from number 10 to 50 of the Cortedomini hamlet , and those of the first alley of Corso Claudio, to "evacuate temporarily and until further notice the homes and all buildings of common personal, family, work or service use".
