Simona Halep, world No. 2 and main contender for the title, quickly rallied the second round of Roland Garros after overcoming a sluggish start against the Spanish Sara Sorribes, dominated in straight sets 6-4, 6-0 on Sunday .

Under the new roof of Central Court, Halep initially found herself trailing 4-2, hampered by playing conditions slowed down by humidity and cold.

Then she won ten consecutive games going on the offensive.

"It's a bit cold but it's a unique moment to play at Roland Garros on my birthday," smiled the former world No. 1, who turns 29 this Sunday.

"I was a little nervous at first. Then I found my rhythm, I opened up the court more, I set up my plan B and it worked well," she added.

The Romanian player will face her compatriot Irina-Camelia Begu or Switzerland's Jil Teichmann in the next round.
