• Appointment with the polls: The legal battle between PDeCAT and Carles Puigdemont crosses the electoral path of Catalonia

  • Political crisis: Carles Puigdemont dynamites the remains of traditional nationalism: this is how Convergència has died in 10 years

Ferran Bel

(Tortosa, 1965) attends this newspaper while the PDeCAT lawyers demand in a court that Puigdemont return the acronym JxCat after appropriating them "unilaterally".

With the schism over, the

neoconvergents

set out to regain their autonomy.

Released after divorce from Puigdemont?

Are you sorry you didn't break up earlier? I feel sorry.

We have not broken anything, we are where we have always been.

But we are all responsible for what we have done.

I will not abdicate everything

as the decisions made in recent years.

We have to assume them.

Is there any possibility that they will concur together in the next regional elections? Objectively, it is very difficult.

Today more than yesterday.

JxCat and PDeCAT are working to have their machinery ready to attend alone. What will PDeCAT's freedom of movement translate into, from now on? When the only PDeCAT adviser is expelled from the Government without any justification, reality changes.

We will vote differently from JxCat with absolute normality when the strategies are different. Has the total confrontation with the State ended? From my perspective, there was no strict will of absolute confrontation with the Government.

Sánchez was president because the eight PDeCAT deputies voted in favor.

The one who sought the confrontation was Sánchez when he wanted us to approve some Budgets without any negotiation.

Now we are ready to negotiate the Budgets without red lines, but not for free. Will they demand counterparts with a sovereignist tinge or will they stick to economic and social issues? We would like the Government to face the political problem of Catalonia and not hide its head underground, but This does not mean that we are going to condition the Budgets for that.

We are not going to ask for the self-determination referendum or, if not, there are no Budgets.

It would not be reasonable.

Now, if some do not condition it, neither can others condition it by demanding that there be no negotiating table with Catalonia, that the Penal Code not be reformed or that there be no pardons. So, would you be willing to support some Budgets that Cs would also support ? To support some Budgets the most relevant thing is not who supports them, but their content.

If the Budgets fit us, whoever wants to support them.

If many more people vote for them, all the better.

Doesn't PDeCAT see a gesture from the Government in the pardons? Any gesture to see these disproportionate penalties mitigated, beyond the fact that the optimal would be amnesty, would be considered as a step, but not as the definitive step.

In any case, it could be considered a gesture if these pardons were granted. How are PDeCAT and the PNC different from Marta Pascal? Those who should make the difference are those who leave the party.

They will know.

We propose a clearly independentist, pragmatic, realistic option that wants to occupy the political centrality in Catalonia. Do you rule out an electoral confluence? Allying yourself with one who has been at home and has left is strange.

Has the PDeCAT assimilated the CUP speech too much? We made a mistake yielding to pressure from the CUP so that Mas would stop being president.

They have been very unloyal.

We have yielded excessively to the postulates of the most radical left that the CUP represents. Should Torra have called elections before his foreseeable disqualification? A situation of absolute democratic and unjust abnormality must be denounced.

That said, I would not have let the electoral calendar be set by the Supreme Court.

I have it very clear: should the unilateral route be reactivated if the pro-independence parties add up more than 50% of the votes in the autonomous ones?

It has to be serious.

One-sidedness can be exhibited as a possibility when you really have the ability to exercise it.

When you do not have the capacity to exercise it, it is still a voluntary exercise with little travel, with 51% of the votes and with 60% of the votes.

What is your approach to completing the process? A referendum with international recognition.

No deadlines?

We have already seen that, when we set ourselves deadlines, it makes it more difficult than it benefits the end goal.
