A cyber attack which affected the IT services of the city and the agglomeration of Besançon led Friday the mayor, Anne Vignot (EELV) to call to be "particularly vigilant" regarding possible "spam emails" sent by these communities .
The attack, which took place on September 4, targeted "the IT infrastructures of Grand Besançon Métropole, the City and the Communal Center for Social Action of Besançon", declared the elected representative in a press release, as well as "several communities and administrations in France ”.
Malicious software, included in emails, then spread within computer networks.
Community data and other information, including the electronic address books of community officials "were stolen", as well as documents in emails and mailboxes.
If the data leak has been stopped, Anne Vignot announces that information "is currently used to send spam emails that usurp the identity" of one of the communities.
These emails contain "malicious format" attachments.
"It is therefore necessary to be particularly vigilant on the real sender of the message", she concludes, stressing that these are fraudulent messages aimed at obtaining personal data (identity elements, banking information, etc.) and that the collectivity "cannot act on this".
In February, elected officials and administrations in the Grand-Est region had already been the target of a large-scale computer attack, which had disrupted the functioning of services for several days.
