The closure of bars from 22:00 is "nonsense", ruled Friday the mayor PS of Lille, Martine Aubry, saying "do not understand" this "general" measure which amounts to "sanctioning an entire profession".

“We are coming to measures that penalize everyone, and I deeply regret that.

10:00 p.m. is nonsense.

Tell bars to close at 22:00, as well tell them that they must close, ”said the mayor of Lille during his press conference back to school.

"Some bars do not respect the measures: it is they who must be sanctioned, and not sanction an entire profession", then clarified Martine Aubry, recalling that the municipality has drawn up 490 minutes for non-compliance with health instructions.

"For want of having closed in time certain establishments which were not playing the game (...), today we take a measure, 22:00, which does not make sense", she lamented.

"Out of 800 bars in Lille, if there are a few hundred that create problems" while "artisans, traders, restaurateurs and the majority of bars have respected the rules".

Placed in "enhanced alert zone", the metropolis of Lille, where the incidence rate has reached 302.4, will see the bars close at 10 p.m. from Monday and for two weeks, a measure which has aroused the anger of many traders.

Restaurants will be able to stay open until 12:30 a.m., according to measures specified on Friday by the North Prefecture.

The mayor of Lille also regretted the closure of gymnasiums and sports halls.

According to her, "there are lots of places where you can play sport while respecting health protocol, and sport is a priority, especially today".
