The Swedish Health and Care Inspectorate, IVO, is now criticizing maternity care in Varberg for inadequate care.

In the decision, IVO writes that any causes for the patient's abdominal pain should have been discussed and that she should have been examined by a doctor before the discharge at the first visit.

IVO also writes that she should not have had to wait so long for help the second time.

Should pay attention to the risks

Admittedly, it is not uncommon for the uterus to rupture when a woman is not in active labor - but one should have suspected when the patient had great pain that did not get better, says IVO.

In addition, the fact that she had previously undergone a caesarean section that increases the risk of a ruptured uterus should have made the staff react.

When the patient then returned to the maternity clinic with her pain, she had to wait for help as the staff did not pay attention to her condition.

According to the hospital itself, they were in the middle of an over-reporting between the staff and that this then affected the care.

But that is not a good enough reason, according to IVO, which believes that they should have a way of working that ensures emergency care around the clock.

The child died a few months later

The child, who was then born by emergency caesarean section, suffered serious injuries and died shortly afterwards due to these.

The woman has reported Halland's hospital in Varberg to the patient board and to IVO, which is now sharply criticizing the maternity ward.

After the incident, the maternity ward reviewed its routines on how to improve emergency care and reported the incident according to lex Maria.
