His lawyer Samvel Dilbandyan told the journalists about it.

“The court granted the request of the investigation and chose a measure of restraint in the form of arrest against Tsarukyan,” the lawyer said, quoted by RIA Novosti.

Dilbandyan called the decision "illegal and unreasonable."

According to the agency, the oppositionist is accused of creating an organized group to bribe voters.

On June 14, the Armenian police detained 252 protesters in support of the chairman of the Prosperous Armenia opposition party Gagik Tsarukyan.

Later, the National Assembly of Armenia at a meeting on June 16 issued a permit to law enforcement agencies to arrest Gagik Tsarukyan.
