  • Coronavirus.Madrid extends restrictions to another eight areas due to the advance of Covid-19

The Government is not satisfied with the decision of the Community of Madrid to extend the restrictions that already operate in 37 districts to only eight other areas.

At the same time that the region was announcing this extension, the Minister of Health, Salvador Illa, appeared this morning in

Moncloa

to make public the recommendations that the Ministry has made and that the regional Executive has not heeded.

Illa assures that it is necessary for movement limitations to be applied throughout the capital (to go out only to work, to school or to attend to basic questions) which in practice is to close the city, and to the municipalities with more than 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, make an "explicit recommendation" to avoid all unnecessary movement, prohibit bar consumption throughout the community and reduce the capacity of the terraces by 50%.

The minister insisted that "we think that these are the measures to be taken" and wants them to be known to public opinion within what he has called an "exercise of transparency" part of the central Administration.

As they are the ones with the powers, Illa has come to say that they expect them to reconsider before the Government is forced to act.

"We are going to see how it evolves, to see what happens these days," he said, without noting at any time what they will do if Madrid does not heed their recommendations.

Illa has repeatedly repeated that it is time to "act with determination" and that "shortcuts" or "gradualism" are not worth it.
