Reportedly, the head of state Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov submitted for consideration a draft resolution “On approval of the draft Constitutional Law“ On amendments and additions to the Constitution of Turkmenistan ”.

It is noted that the Khalk Maslakhaty approved the document unanimously, after which Berdymukhamedov signed it.

During his speech at a meeting of the People's Council, he said that, according to the draft, the Khalk Maslakhaty "joins the system of the highest state bodies carrying out the tasks of the legislative power."

He added that the new bicameral parliament will be called the National Council of Turkmenistan, and its chambers will be called the Khalk Maslakhaty and the Mejlis.
