The Washington Post reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu kept bringing his dirty clothes bags to Washington whenever he came on an official visit to wash them for free during his stay at the US President’s guesthouse. Netanyahu denies these rumors.

The newspaper says that most politicians hide a metaphor for their "dirty laundry," but Netanyahu does not hide his real dirty laundry, but rather brings it with him to wash in America.

The newspaper adds that "the employees of the US President's guesthouse have known over the years that Netanyahu is bringing a special shipment with him on his trips to Washington: many bags full of dirty laundry, according to US officials familiar with the matter."

The clothes of prime ministers who visit Washington are usually cleaned free of charge by American employees, a feature available to all foreign leaders if they request it, so this service is offered on a small scale given that most visiting leaders do not stay for long periods.

"The Netanyahu family is the only one who brings their dirty laundry bags to us to clean it, and after several trips it became clear that this was intentional," one of the American officials spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Israeli officials deny that Netanyahu is using excessive laundry services for American guests, describing the allegations as "ridiculous", but they acknowledge that he was a target of laundry-related charges in the past.

In 2016, Netanyahu filed a lawsuit against his office and the Israeli Attorney General, in an attempt to keep his laundry bills not disclosed under the country's Freedom of Information Act.

The judge sided with Netanyahu, and details of Netanyahu's laundry bills remain classified pending their appeal to the Supreme Court.

The Israeli embassy in Washington issued a statement saying that the Al-Ghusl accusation was an attempt to cover up the success of the normalization agreement that Israel, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates signed in the White House a few days ago.

The embassy said in a statement, "These baseless and absurd allegations aim to downplay the huge achievement of Prime Minister Netanyahu in the historic peace summit that was held recently by President Trump at the White House."

The embassy added that Netanyahu's laundry needs were relatively modest during his last trip.

On this visit, for example, there was no dry cleaning, but only two shirts were washed for the purposes of the public meeting, and the Prime Minister's suit and Mrs. Netanyahu's dress were also ironed for the public meeting, and a pair of pajamas that the Prime Minister wore during the 12-hour trip was washed From Israel to Washington, as stated in the embassy statement.
