The verdict fell Thursday, after four days of hearing before the Loire-Atlantique Assize Court.

A 35-year-old man was sentenced to 18 years in prison for killing his father with a gun, multiple media reports.

The facts took place on December 15, 2017 at the family home in Saint-Mars-de-Coutais, south of Nantes.

The victim was then 68 years old.

An argument had broken out

On the evening of the tragedy, the father allegedly refused to lend his car to his son, which sparked an argument between the two men.

According to the

Ouest-France

newspaper

, the accused suffering from alcohol problems had fled after killing his father with a bullet in the head and another in the thorax, then hiding the body in a garage .

The son was found a few days later near Nantes before confessing the facts.

Three years later, he could not give a clear explanation for his gesture.
