In April, a restraining order was introduced in all of Sweden's nursing homes to limit the spread of covid-19, but on Thursday the ban will be lifted.

According to the infection control doctor in Sörmland, extra care will be required to not spread the infection.

- Everything must work perfectly.

There must be enough protective equipment and you must be able to keep your distance when visiting, says Signar Mäkitalo, and adds that some form of appointment may be required to make it work.

"Do the best we can"

At the same time, he sees that many have longed to meet each other again.

- I think it's sad if older people are not allowed to meet others.

It should not be the case that the elderly are locked inside.

However, there are risks and the infection is not over.

In recent weeks, the spread of the coronavirus has increased in Sörmland.

Are we really ready?

- You have to be what you have been wearing for six months.

Of course, this involves an increased risk.

But it may be worth taking it if it increases the well-being of the elderly.

We must do the best we can, says Signar Mäkitalo.
