  • The Nantes metropolis, for the moment on the alert threshold, is preparing in case of even more intense circulation of the virus.

  • The plan presented on Friday provides for "solutions that can be activated" depending on the evolution of the situation.

It is "a guide" who should help them "anticipate" and "organize".

This Friday afternoon, Nantes metropolis, prefecture and regional health agency jointly presented their prevention and enhanced protection plan for the Nantes metropolitan area.

While the territory is currently on alert threshold, the authorities are preparing for a potential worsening of the health situation linked to the coronavirus epidemic.

Because the City of the Dukes (whose incidence rate has risen to 105 cases per 100,000) is one of the few large cities that has not yet passed into the enhanced alert zone, the upper level.

In this document, no final choices but “solutions that can be activated” according to the evolution of the situation.

If Nantes crossed a threshold, it is for example planned a reduction in the gauge of gatherings (currently limited to 5,000 people), but its number has not yet been specified.

"For bars and restaurants, the question of the schedule may arise," explains Didier Fillion-Nicolet, deputy director general for public tranquility and security for the city of Nantes.

Note that this plan does not mention the hypothesis of a closure, whatever the scenario.

“For schools, we are studying the possibility of specific support for nursing staff,” continues Didier Fillion-Nicolet.

The plan also provides for "partial confinement unless there is a certificate of displacement for compelling reasons" in the event of a maximum alert.

Avoid hiccups

Difficult, therefore, to know what measures will be concretely imposed on the people of Nantes and even less when.

But the publication of this plan aims above all to prepare the ground by trying that the hiccups recently occurred in Marseille for example (where certain anti-covid measures were contested by the mayor) will not occur in Nantes, "where the public authorities are working together ”, assures Johanna Rolland, the mayor.

However, this document, which has been revised several times depending on the national context, could quickly become obsolete.

It all depends on potential future government announcements.
