The Covid-19 epidemic continues its "ascending phase".

More than 15,000 new contaminations were recorded in 24 hours, according to data published Friday evening September 25 by Public Health France.

A figure below the record of the day before (16,096) but which confirms the strong upward trend.

While new restriction measures were announced this week in an attempt to stem the epidemic, 56 people have died in the past 24 hours, four more than the day before.

The proportion of patients among those tested (the positivity rate) also continues to increase.

It is 6.9% against 6.5% Thursday and 6.2% Wednesday.

Over the last seven days, 4,069 new hospitalizations were recorded, including 747 serious cases in intensive care, or 29 more than the day before.

Almost all of the departments in vulnerable situations

Since the start of the epidemic, at least 31,661 people have died from causes related to the coronavirus, including 20,995 in hospitals.

1,125 centers of circulation of the epidemic or "clusters" are under investigation, ie more than 94 in twenty-four hours.

Almost all of the French departments are in a vulnerable situation.

The Covid-19 epidemic in France is in "an ascending phase", Public Health France warned on Friday.

Among the "worrying" points, the health agency notes the "increasingly strong circulation" of the virus among the elderly.

"Alarming" health situation in Rennes

While the health situation is deteriorating, the government announced on Wednesday restrictive measures in several metropolitan areas.

In Aix-Marseille, the government has decided to close the closure of bars and restaurants from Sunday.

In the 43 municipalities of the metropolis of Rennes, classified in enhanced alert zones, private sports halls and public gymnasiums will also be closed except for minors and extracurricular activities, static gatherings of more than 10 people are prohibited and bars, which already close at 11 p.m., will have to close at 10 p.m. on Monday.

The health situation is "alarming" in Rennes, said the mayor PS Nathalie Appéré, when announcing new "difficult" measures that she refused to criticize, unlike other socialist mayors.

"It is not for me to comment on these measures. I would even say that we would probably be on the wrong track to criticize them," she said.

"Our role is to guarantee that the implementation is as concerted as possible, as suited as possible to the realities of the territory".

"These are difficult measures to take and extremely restrictive for everyone," she admitted however.

Lille PS mayor Martine Aubry ruled on Friday that closing bars at 10 p.m. was "ineptitude" while Paris PS mayor Anne Hidalgo criticized measures "difficult to understand".

The prefect of Ille-et-Vilaine Michèle Kirry announced at this press conference the issuance of a decree for two weeks including a series of new health measures, such as the ban on gatherings of more than 1,000 people, the 'ban on room rentals for festive gatherings or the ban on student parties.

However, the closing time for restaurants is unchanged and swimming pools can remain open.

The incidence rate of Covid-19 in Rennes is 174.8 per 100,000 inhabitants and rises to 421 among young people (16-25 years old).

This rate is 63.7 in Brittany and 119.7 in Ille-et-Vilaine, according to the prefect.

"For the past two weeks, we have observed an increase in hospitalizations", also underlined Stéphane Mulliez, director general of the Regional Health Agency, who called for "to limit his social interactions below ten people".
