The departmental council of Val-d'Oise "had contested his minority, but a court decision had confirmed his support until August 10, 2020, the date of his majority and therefore since which he is no longer under the protection of child welfare ".

During this care, "no sign of radicalization had been observed by the services", specifies this source.

Shortly after the attack, the main suspect was arrested near the Place de la Bastille.

The 18-year-old was born in Pakistan, according to a source close to the case.

He is the "principal author of the facts", declared Jean-François Ricard, the head of the national antiterrorist prosecution (Pnat), in charge of the investigation.

Another man, arrested near the place of the attack, was also taken into custody, like five other people, arrested in the early evening in Pantin, in Seine-Saint-Denis.
