French Prime Minister Jean Castex said on Friday that 4 people were injured - two of them in serious condition - in a knife attack near the former office of the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo.

Police arrested a suspect near Place de la Bastille in Paris after the aforementioned attack.

After the police reported in the first stage that two persons accused in connection with the attack had fled, the police station stated that a single person had carried out the attack.

The Al-Jazeera correspondent said that initial information indicates that the stabbing process in Paris was random and did not target specific persons.

He added that the suspect's motives for carrying out the stabbing attack in Paris are still unknown.

French police imposed a security cordon around the former headquarters of the Charlie Hebdo newspaper after the stabbing attack.

The stabbing incident coincides with court sessions in Paris of the alleged accomplices of the perpetrators of the attack on Charlie Hebdo in January 2015, which killed 12 people.
