Several magistrates' unions are calling for rallies against Eric Dupond-Moretti on Thursday, reproaching the latter for his statements on the "inter-self" of this profession.

At the microphone of Europe 1, Katia Dubreuil, president of the Syndicat de la magistrature, denounces "false" remarks by the Minister of Justice on the National School of Magistrates (ENM).

INTERVIEW

War is truly declared between the magistrates and Éric Dupond-Moretti.

Thursday, the first will gather in several places of France against the first, accused of "attacking the judicial institution" through his recent statements.

Katia Dubreuil, president of the Syndicat de la magistrature, accuses the Minister of Justice of having a populist attitude towards them, she explains on Europe 1.

"Closed vase" against open school

"We have absolutely not criticized the appointment of a lawyer (Nathalie Roret, editor's note) at the head of the National School of Magistrates (ENM)", specifies Katia Dubreuil at the microphone of Sébastien Krebs.

"The problem is that of the speech of the minister written on the occasion of the announcement of this appointment. He once again used extremely negative terms to speak of the magistrates, the magistracy, the school, the teaching that exist. "

In his speech, the Keeper of the Seals insisted on his desire to see the ENM "break with outdated traditions" and "with the temptation of the isolation and the inter-self".

"In this school, there are lawyers who come with the magistrates for training," retorts the leader of the Magistrates' Union.

"There are a whole bunch of other professionals who intervene to open magistrates on many issues, psychiatrists, experts of all kinds, like people from civil society."

"Surfing on a bad image"

"The Minister took advantage of this moment of this announcement to, once again, carry an extremely negative assessment of this school", continues Katia Dubreuil about the Keeper of the Seals, who had pleaded in a book published in 2018 for the deletion of the ENM.

"There, we rather have the impression that he is in a Trump-style speech, in which we must surf on the bad image of the judiciary in the eyes of the general public and the fact that justice is poorly understood."

Favorable to "reforms so that justice works better", the union leader denounces the logic of the government vis-à-vis the judicial institution, which she considers demagogue: "We cannot constantly create laws that restrict the rights of people and ask the judges to judge faster and without hearing the litigants, then find that people are not satisfied with their justice because it works badly and finally say the magistrates should get out of the way and have the culture of the adversarial .
