The plan to renew the common EU rules has been delayed for a long time, but gained new relevance after the fire at the Moria refugee camp, which left thousands of migrants on the Greek island of Lesbos homeless.

This was stated by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, at a press conference, writes Politico.

The presentation of the new proposals also begins with a speech by chairman von der Leyan, which is only done with particularly important bills, writes TT.

The two Commissioners responsible for the work are Margaritis Schinas, one of the Commission's eight Vice - Presidents, and Yva Johansson, Home Affairs Commissioner.

Since 2015, the situation has been locked in the view of asylum and migration policy.

The Commission's goal today is to find a way to deal with asylum applications and migration within the EU in a way that all Member States can accept.
