A hundred Breton nightclub owners demonstrated this Wednesday in front of the town hall of Rennes to highlight their catastrophic situation.

The establishments have been closed since March 14 and 5% have already filed for bankruptcy.

"When you think about it, it's scary."

Like a hundred other Breton nightclub owners, Jessica Chapelain, manager of Vogue in Lorient, demonstrated this Wednesday in front of the town hall of Rennes.

A real cry for help from this sector very strongly affected by the coronavirus crisis.

Since March 14, nightclubs have been closed and a whole part of the economy is completely paralyzed.

"Ten of my employees are unemployed, my husband and I have had no income since March", explains Jessica Chapelain at the microphone of Europe 1.

Coronavirus: follow the evolution of the situation Wednesday September 23

"When you think about it, it's scary"

This situation is all the more alarming as no financial assistance has yet been paid.

"We are waiting for state aid, ie 1,500 euros per month over three months. But that is not enough: it does not even pay rent. How do we eat?"

These aids relate "to the months of June-July-August", specifies for his part Cyril Copin, president of the regional collective of nightclub owners.

What about the month of September?

"We are in the unknown."

"5% of establishments have already filed for bankruptcy"

If some of the 150 Breton nightclub owners have, however, benefited from loans guaranteed by the State (PGE), this is far from the case for a majority, he explains, with supporting figures.

“5% of establishments have already filed for bankruptcy, while 21% are in receivership”.

And to sum up: "for six months we have had neither turnover nor remuneration."
