Today, about a third of the group aged 65 and older are vaccinated.

The figure is better in the special housing, but the vast majority do not get vaccinated and they now want to change that.

- We know that the elderly and those with several chronic diseases risk becoming seriously ill if they get the flu.

That is why we are strengthening, says Ingeborg Wiksten (L).

Extra funds are added

Extra funds will be added, as the cost of approximately SEK 4.5 million is not budgeted for 2020. Next year, the effort will be included when the budget is decided.

- I hope that more people will take the vaccine.

The patient fee should not be decisive, says regional councilor Glenn Nordlund (S).

Then the vaccination starts

This year's vaccinations for the priority groups will start on 3 November.

In addition to the risk groups, this also includes healthcare staff and care and nursing staff who work with risk groups.

The political decision on free vaccinations will be formally made in October.
